A beautiful part of musical artistry that I have always loved is when an artist takes a previously recorded song from an opposing genre, and molds it into their own art. A great example of this was brought to us by the astronomically talented Lauryn Hill. As a bonus track on her phenom solo album, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, she took Frankie Valli's Can't Take My Eyes Off You which was a pop infused track and transitioned it into soulful R&B. If you ask me why is this significant? My answer is this: there is art in transition but not in thievery. Artists will steal sounds, beats, lyrics, etc. and label it different yet the song is only a copy + paste of the original. Maybe it's just me but I have a strong dislike for artists doing that type shit and unfortunately, it's becoming a jaded theme in today's music.
